Beach Dance Festival Announces 2007 Awards Program
Miami Beach - At the 4th annual Miami Beach Dance Festival, April
12 to 22, awards were presented to two individuals who have made
exceptional contributions to the field of dance in South Florida.
This year we present awards to Florene Litthcut Nichols and
Pedro Pablo Pena in recognition of their enduring contributions
to the world of dance, said Festival founder and Momentum
Dance Company Artistic Director Delma Iles.
Women
Playwrights Initiative selects Regina Taylor for its National Council Orlando
- Women Playwrights' Initiative (WPI), a nonprofit advocating the
development and production of plays written by women, has selected
Golden-Globe winner Regina Taylor for its inaugural National Advisory
Council. Council members will take on a support and advocacy role
as WPI helps increase the production of plays written by women on
the national scene.

Hart Joins the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood as Curator of
Exhibitions Hollywood
Jane Hart has been appointed curator of exhibitions at the Art and
Culture Center of Hollywood. As
the curator of exhibitions, Harts responsibilities include
overseeing the Centers art collections and exhibitions, planning
and organizing curated exhibitions, and creating and implementing
educational programming related to the exhibitions. Hart will also
be a liaison for the Center and the community by advocating the
importance of the contemporary visual arts.
Caldwell
Theatre Company Wins Two Carbonell Stage Awards Boca
Raton Caldwell Theatre Company was honored on April 9 with
two Carbonell Awards for Lend Me A Tenor, the Ken Ludwig farce
produced during Caldwells Summer Season of 2006. Caldwell was
presented with the Best Ensemble Production Award, and Connie SaLoutos
took home the Best Supporting Actress in a Play Carbonell Award for
her side-splitting depiction of Maria, the long-suffering wife of
Tito the tenor. Uniformly hailed by critics as the summers
must-see comedy, Lend Me A Tenor, directed by Joe Warik,
was the sold-out talk of the town last summer.
The
Lyric Theatre's 80th Anniversary Gala Is a Huge Success With a Gross
of $350,000! STUART
- The Lyric Theatre's first-ever gala event, held on March 11th and
featuring The Beach Boys, netted over $200,000, which proceeds will
be used for the ongoing upkeep and needed renovations of the Treasure
Coast's premier performing arts center. "I believe this may have
been the most successful single fundraising event in the history of
an arts organization in Martin County. It was probably the most fun
too!!" noted John Loesser, the theater's executive director.

Coast Jazz Society Awards $67,000 in Scholarships Fort
Lauderdale On March 10, 2007, high school and college students
from South Florida competed for jazz scholarships in the final round
of the Gold Coast Jazz Societys Jeanette M. Russell Jazz Scholarship
Competition. Students won over $67,000 in scholarships from the
Gold Coast Jazz Societys Jeanette M. Russell Jazz Scholarship
Fund. The
annual jazz competition was held at Dillard High Schools Center
for the Arts in Fort Lauderdale. Winners of the competition were
recognized at the Jazz Stars of Tomorrow reception and
program held at ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Ft. Lauderdale
on March 29. The event was free and open to the public and featured
live performances by a number of the scholarship winners. A
total of thirty-one students received scholarship awards to study
jazz. Eighteen high school students won a jazz scholarship to study
at a summer music camp of their choice. The remaining thirteen students
won a scholarship to study jazz at the college or university level.

Young Playwrights Festival Winners Announced! Sarasota
- On Saturday, May 19, 2007, Florida Studio Theatre will celebrate
the achievements of over 200 winning playwrights with the Young
Playwrights Festival Day. Winners of the 2007 Young Playwrights
Festival, and their families, will gather at Florida Studio Theatres
downtown campus to see their plays and celebrate. The playwrights
will get the opportunity to see their winning plays performed in
productions of UNDER SIX, UNDER SIX TOO and SEVEN
UP. Winners will receive a special certificate and medal honoring
their work at an awards ceremony, to be held at 3:00 pm at nearby
Holley Hall.

Annual Reach for the Stars Gala Auction Raises Over
$150,000 for the Miracle Theatre Coral
Gables On Saturday, April 14, notable guests, community members,
and theatre supporters gathered at the Miracle Theatre in Coral
Gables for the 16th Annual Reach for the Stars Gala
Auction presented by Actors' Playhouse and Lexus of Kendall. Hosted
by Founding Board Chairman Dr. Lawrence and Barbara Stein, executive
producing director, 500 guests were dressed to impress at this formal
affair that featured over $300,000 worth of live and silent auction
items up for bid. Preceded by dinner provided by 30 of Coral Gables
finest restaurants and an open Bacardi Bar, it was an evening full
of entertainment. Guest auctioneer was South Floridas own
Bob Soper formerly of WFOR Channel 4 TV with the help of Artistic
Director David Arisco. The popular auction is the major fundraising
event for Actors' Playhouse each year. This years funds of
$150,000 will be dedicated to capital projects and enhancement to
the theatres endowment fund.
The
Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach Announces New Executive Director
Cindy Stoddart Joins The Cultural Center
Ponte Vedra Beach - Cindy Stoddart has been named Executive Director
for the Cultural Center of Ponte Vedra. The announcement was made
by Walter Jewett, Board President of The Cultural Center at Ponte
Vedra Beach. Stoddart's responsibilities begin in May 2007 and will
include overseeing all aspects of the Cultural Center's day to day
operations and its programs including the procurement of grants,
membership benefits, corporate and private fundraising, strategic
partnerships and the development of special events. Additionally,
Stoddart will supervise and direct usage of the Center's gallery,
art and music rooms and ballroom.
The
Lyric Theatre Appoints John Wilkes as Chief Operating Officer
Stuart - John Loesser, Executive Director for The Lyric Theatre,
is pleased to announce that John D. Wilkes has accepted the position
of Chief Operating Officer for The Lyric Theatre. "We
are extremely fortunate to have John join the Lyric team. His experience,
dedication and proven skills in successfully operating performing
arts halls in Florida and in Canada over his 32 year career, in
every aspect of our business, will greatly benefit The Lyric Theatre
immediately and as we plan for the future." Mr.
Wilkes has most recently been Executive Director of the Van Wezel
Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, the most successful municipally-operated
performing arts hall in the country, where he also held that same
post from 1987-1993. Prior to returning to the Van Wezel, Mr. Wilkes
was Chief Operating Officer for the Kravis Center for the Performing
Arts in West Palm Beach.

Center Elects New Chairman, Officers
The Board of Directors of the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing
Arts elected William A. Meyer of Palm Beach as the new Chairman
of the Board at its annual meeting on April 25. In addition, the
board elected Alec Flamm of Palm Beach and Amin J. Khoury of Jupiter
Island as Vice Chairmen. Garrison duP. Lickle of Palm Beach was
elected Treasurer and Jane M. Mitchell of North Palm Beach was elected
Secretary. Michael J. Bracci of Jupiter and Laurie S. Silvers of
Boca Raton were newly elected for three-year terms, while Meyer,
Flamm and Kathryn Vecellio of Palm Beach were re-elected for three-year
terms. Barbara Picower of Palm Beach was elected as Director Emerita
for a three-year term. Retiring board members Patricia Cook, A.
Ephraim Diamond, John B. Dodge, George T. Elmore, Judith B. Goodman,
Helen K. Persson and Stanley M. Rumbough, Jr. were elected to the
non-voting position of life trustee.

Mike has been drawing faces since early childhood. Beginning in
the first grade his papers were filled with doodles of silly faces,
both of animals and people. Although he still "doodles"
